let's move on and in a hurry shall we? =P current topic: an audience beyond lsf? thoughts? Possible but difficult. =P really should we as a community be aiming for such an audience, do you believe? Depends on if you *want* for there to be a bigger audience. =P do you? me, personally, I make games for lsf and no one else really Hm, that's a good question. Based on LSF getting bigger, I'm not sure if getting bigger is a "good" thing But it's just me being more comfortable in a smaller setting where everyone seems to know each other. =P what about trying to make something the visual news guys would like? or something that would sell on dlsite (not the best of audiences, but there /is/ money involved...) not making lsf bigger per se, but just reaching beyond it's realm Personally, I couldn't care less about Visual News and DLsite. =P ha ha! i knew there was a reason i liked you XD But I think I make games in hopes that there's an audience that appreciates it. Not exactly LSF-centric, but it was more likely to be played when it was smaller. =P well, any game made is still likely to be played at about the same rate as before Hehe. =P it's just that since the "population boom" it's just a smaller /percentage/ of the members playing Hm, perhaps. since i really don't think many of the new kids will give a lot of games the chance they perhaps deserve But yeah - I'm not too concerned about popularity, but I do like for people who play it to enjoy. =P but i'm sure if one of the older members released something, the other older members would come flocking in we just haven't had any real significant release in a while and nanoreno entries sorta subdue the effect of other nanoreno entries since it's not just one game to play, but your choice of a bunch of new ones or at least that's how i see it Makes sense. On that note, I haven't played all that many of the releases from the past two years. @.@ i try to give everything at least five minutes of my time but there's probably a number of things i haven't even done one playthrough of ...i was gonna ask another question but i forgot it somewhere... Hehehe oh i think i found it objectively, better games (wider audiences) means better exposure for the community, which is ultimately a good thing supposedly more exposure -> more members -> more talent -> more games -> more better games, or something along that logic do you think the creator should be held responsible with helping promote the community through their games, though? or should they be allowed to just write for smaller audiences? Hm... I think the creator can do as he or she pleases. =P fair enough, and i agree, but that leads into the tough stuff Yeah... Most communities have people that go out and toot horns when something awesome shows up. now, who if anyone does that responsibility now fall on? Pytom? The Self promoters? the fans? Do they deserve this responsibility and what happens when the creators don't want that hype? the conflict of interest b/w creator's desire for smaller audience and the community's desire for expansion Hoo, now that's tough. i warned ya (this comes from a visual news forum post pytom once made about the growth of the oel community... he actually used Starlit Sky as a reference to how the community is developing better stories... (Huzzah? =) ( as flattered as I was, it kinda left a funny aftertaste in my mouth because I care not for the tl side playing my game) Let O3 be the flagship, I really wanted no part of it Hehe. so i guess that's my answer that the creator's wishes are supreme and should be obeyed I think the responsibility can fall to those who want to take it up. =P but of course they should probably be made clear first, since i said nothing about promoting the game And I agree that the creator can have the final say if wanted. but even if it does become something beyond themselves? an extreme example, but what if someone wrote the oel tsukihime should they be able to keep it in tighter quarters... how could they prevent it from expanding its audience on its own anyway? and what happens when it does grow so popular when it becomes property of the fans as much as the creator @.@ no need for an answer, i just thought of throwing it out there because i honestly doubt that we'll ever get an oel tsukihime... ^^; i really don't think it's that possible for lsf games to spill out of the lsf world to be honest lsf might grow bigger, as it has... but it's still self contained, and likely to stay that way for a /while/ =P As much as the creator's wishes should be respected, it's certainly possible that it'll grow out of the creator's hands... In that case, I think it's all right as long credit is given where it's due, I guess. =S so up to that imaginary line, it's the creator's say that's supreme, but then it becomes the fan's say? I dunno - it certainly seems that unruly fans would continue regardless of how close you are to that "line" =P do the responsibilities change after that line is crossed? is the author now obligated to promote his work or expand upon it... or are the fans enough to keep carrying it I don't think the author is obligated to do any promotion. S/he'll probably do as s/he pleases. =P fair enough fair enough i'm just really wondering if a game would ever come to the point where pytom and the community wants to promote something over the creator's wishes and how it'll ultimately be resolved, or not It's certainly an interesting though - one that I've admittedly not given much, if any, thought to. =P *interesting thought i think of it ever so rarely when i give a minute to think about what i want from my games and audience not that i really have to i'm very sure /I/ won't be the guy who breaks through the oel walls I'm sure I'm not the one either. =P Though if it somehow happens, I probably won't know about it. XD I'm a bit more selfish in that I know what I want from the games, and that the audience can react how it may. heh not a bad way about it (WHAT?? 10 enemies just warped in from out of nowhere.) ...and i'm off 'night 02* drakey (n=Drake@c-69-142-74-88.hsd1.pa.comcast.net) Quit ("ChatZilla 0.9.83 [Firefox 2.0.0.14/2008040413]") 02* Samu-kun (i=0ccf186d@gateway/web/ajax/mibbit.com/x-b264307f2c0d5ab8) Quit ("http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client") 01 Hello again 01 (if anyone is still here, that is.) 03* Samu-kun (i=0ccf186d@gateway/web/ajax/mibbit.com/x-3ad741a93fa16c72) has joined #baka-trio Session Close: Sat Jun 28 13:23:42 2008
